Clean Arabic text of vowel marks
Paste vocalized Arabic into the box and this tool removes the diacritics: fatha, damma, kasra, tanween, shadda, sukun and the dagger alef.
Use it to prepare text for search, databases, spell checks or other programs that handle marks badly.
To add vowel marks instead, the Arabic keyboard has a tashkeel row. If your text came out as Latin gibberish, run it through the wrong-layout fixer first.

Frequently asked questions
What it removes
What exactly is removed?
The vowel marks and shadda, sukun, tanween and dagger alef. The letters themselves are not changed.
Does it remove the stretched letter tatweel (ـ)?
Not with this option. Choose “Remove tatweel” in the tool menu for that.
Does it remove Quranic signs?
No. It removes the common vowel marks only. Other Quranic annotation signs, such as small high marks, are left in place.
Using it
Why remove tashkeel?
The same word with and without marks is a different string of characters. Removing the marks makes searches, comparisons and database matches line up, and it avoids misplaced marks in apps that handle them badly.
What happens to English words and numbers?
They are left exactly as they are. Only the Arabic vowel marks are removed.
Can I add tashkeel instead?
Not on this page. The Arabic keyboard on the home page has a gold row for inserting marks by hand. Automatic vocalization isn’t available yet.
Privacy and cost
Is it free?
Yes. The tool is free to use, with no signup and no account.
Is my text uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser and nothing you type is uploaded. The box above also saves a draft in your browser’s local storage on your device. The Clear key or your browser’s site data removes it.
